{"id":23504,"date":"2026-02-23T11:09:46","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T11:09:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newlifecharity.co.uk\/?p=23504"},"modified":"2026-02-23T11:14:50","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T11:14:50","slug":"help-is-just-a-phone-call-away-with-newlifes-nurse-helpline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newlifecharity.co.uk\/help-is-just-a-phone-call-away-with-newlifes-nurse-helpline\/","title":{"rendered":"Help is just a phone call away with Newlife\u2019s Nurse Helpline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Helplines Awareness Day on February 23 shines a spotlight on the incredible work of helplines across the UK, which not only<!--more--> celebrates the dedicated people who make a difference every day but also raises awareness of just how much they can help.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you need information, support or just someone to listen to you without judgement, helplines can provide a lifeline at a time when you are struggling or don\u2019t know who to turn to.<\/p>\n<p>At Newlife, the Nurse Helpline is staffed by professionally qualified registered nurses so you can be sure that when you ask questions specific to your child, you are getting a knowledgeable answer, and that all the support they offer is backed by experience too.<\/p>\n<p>While the rest of Newlife\u2019s Charitable Services team can provide information and updates about our Equipment Services, callers to the Nurse Helpline can speak to nurses about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Information on rare or complex health conditions<\/li>\n<li>Access to Newlife\u2019s Equipment Services \u2013 Equipment Grants, Emergency Equipment Loans, Play Therapy Pod<\/li>\n<li>Information about local health and care professionals<\/li>\n<li>Information on national and local statutory and charitable services<\/li>\n<li>Support to address your individual needs<\/li>\n<li>Emotional care and support<\/li>\n<li>Supporting families when they have been given a diagnosis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Consultant Nurse Karen Dobson said: \u201cI have been working with Newlife for more than 20 years and in all the time one thing has remained central \u2013 supporting children with disabilities and their families \u2013 which is why the helpline was launched.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll callers are listened to and receive kindness and compassion \u2013 without a clock ticking down on how long we can speak with them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe support on a wide range of issues and parents and carers as well as wider family are welcome to call as often as they need us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes just talking things over with someone on the phone is easier than a\u00a0face-to-face\u00a0meeting, and with children, hospital appointments and jobs to juggle, the helpline is invaluable, especially as callers can speak to nurses who truly understand.<\/p>\n<p>The Nurse Helpline team can also speak to those struggling with mental health issues.<\/p>\n<p>Karen said: \u201cWe know caring for children with disabilities can be hard in so many ways. We speak to many who\u00a0have no one else to talk to, or they don\u2019t feel like they can talk honestly with their friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen calling the helpline they\u00a0can say exactly\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0on their mind,\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0really concerning them, without any judgment.\u00a0It\u00a0can help clarify things in their own minds or\u00a0even\u00a0help them see things from\u00a0a different perspective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also find parents and carers are often so caught up in caring for their children that they forget about themselves until they reach breaking point. We can help them navigate to find the help and support they\u00a0need,\u00a0which\u00a0is something they\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0always know how to do, especially when they are overwhelmed and in survival mode which can means\u00a0they\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0able to look further than\u00a0the moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most important thing we can do for those who call us is give them our time\u00a0\u2013 and the whole team are great problem solvers!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Call the Newlife Nurse Helpline Reception Team on freephone 0800 902 0095 to connect to our Nurses and arrange a Nurse call back or book an appointment to assist with your enquiry.
